Contemporary Elizabethan hairstyles

There are many takes on the elizabethan hairstyles.
Some contempary hairstyles scream Elizabethan such as this image of Lily Cole.
Richard Burbridge, (2005), Pictorial [ONLINE]. Available at: http://noirfacade.livejournal.com/343968.html[Accessed 03 December 14].

It's easy to identify this image as a contempary Elizabethan look because of many elements. The red hair not only iconic to Elizabeth herself but also favoured by those of nobility in the Elizabethan era. The hair accessory is reflective of those used to decorate hairstyles back in those times. This accessory looks like a French Hood. Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth's mother, is credited with introducing the French hood into England. Another link to Elizabeth and her era. the texture added to this models hair also dates back to Elizabethan times. The curled crimp represents that worn by the nobilities of the time. A technique we learnt in class to recreate our own Elizabethan styles.

Other hairstyles such as this one above are not as obviously Elizabethan but a plait was a staple style used during that time. The fact that this models hair is swept away from her face and raised slightly also gives a nod to that era.

It's quite common to see a hint of Elizabethan on the runway. This style here recreated for the Alexander McQueen follows the iconic heart shape of the Elizabethan era however the messiness makes this image contemporary.

This image of Chanel models shows them wearing the shape and texture of Elizabethan hair.  Also the use of accessories hints to that era too.
